A hurt leg kept Susan Stevens sidelined at the Halloween dance, and the flu ruled her out of the Christmas ball, but nothing can keep her away from the Peppermint Prom. As a ninth grader, Sue is ready to make her Taft Junior High debut, and she’ll be wearing a perfect pink dress. The prom is as elegant as a fairytale, and it doesn’t take long for Sue to meet her prince. Dave Young is dashing, graceful, with an attitude that Sue cannot resist. He offers his hand, and sweeps her into a dance that will change her life forever.

Soon, she and Dave are an item, and Sue is a certified member of The Crowd. But popularity brings new pressures, and Sue will find that beneath their peppermint smiles, her new friends may have a darker side.

The Pink Dress eBook Anne Alexander

This was my favorite book in 5th grade! I have been searching for this book for years but it was out of print and I couldn't afford the collectors editions. I was so thrilled when I realized The Pink Dress would be printed again in paperback. I ordered it even before it was printed. When it finally arrived and read it in one day! It is still just as good as I remember it being over 40 years ago! Love this story!

The Pink Dress eBook Anne Alexander Reviews

this book has been out of print for years....glad it has come back out....was a book i read as a girl.....and remembered thru the years
I was thrilled to learn this book was back in print! I read this book many times as a young girl. Had been looking for a copy for years. Ordered 2 copies for my granddaughters. They loved it as much as I did as a young girl!
This was a very, very favorite book of mine as a young preteen growing up in the 50's and 60's. Was never able to find a copy when my four granddaughters were at that age. Purchased the paperback copy to be able to re-read the story that I remembered all these years ago. The underlying message for young people is just relevant today as it was at the time it was first published. Thanks to those who reprinted this timeless story.
I read this book when I was in the 8th grade and love it. I checked out of the library so many times and read it. I have been looking for it for years and was so excited to see it reprinted. I can't wait to read it again.
Haven't seen this book since I was in junior high , back in the dark ages. A thrill to have it now as my own. It was almost impossible to check it out of the school library because it was always checked out by some lucky girl before me. Honestly , I don't know how I got lucky; probably every other girl had her turn. However, as I began reading ,I realized I wasn't finding anything familiar in the book. My sister & I laughed like a couple of hyenas as we admitted this to each other. We both had an idea that we thought we remembered but , alas , hers was totally wrong , & mine remains to be seen. Nevertheless, this sweet enduring book deserves full star rating just for being the Pink Dress.
I have been trying to find this book for several years. As an 8th grader in 1962-63 this was the library book we all got on the list to read. It was one of the first young adult books that came around with real time issues of girls in Jr high. There were books about young women going into nursing, secretarial , and teaching (the trinity of jobs thought to be proper for girls at that time) but not many about girls of that age. I know exactly how her daughter and friends felt when rushing home to find the next chapter. I read this novel several times before moving onto more adult themes . I love that there are many more books available for young adult readers now. THANK YOU for bringing thisbook out again
I don't remember how I heard about this book. No doubt through my interest in girl's series books. When I read all of the glowing reviews and looked around and saw how expensive it was, I couldn't justify it but I did put an email alert on Ebay so I would be informed whenever one came up for sale. Lo and behold, when one did, and I re-researched it, I saw that it was on for 9.99. I just finished it, and I do see why people love it so. I still prefer Rosamunde du Jardin, whose stories are a little more complex, but this one really drew me in from the very beginning. Although sometimes, I grew very frustrated with how blind Sue was to her so-called friends, when she finally woke up and smelled the coffee, the resolution and climax were very satisfying. It was very realistic to how teens would think and behave back in the 50's and probably even today. They are immature and insecure and very silly sometimes. The book had some surprises regarding her new cool boyfriend, Dave, who had quite a good character arc! In parts, it kind of reminded me of a John Hughes movie, or Can't Buy me Love.
